Igbo Spiritual Leaders Visit Nnamdi Kanu In Sokoto, Reveal Next Line Of Action

A delegation of prominent Igbo spiritual leaders has visited detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre in a move described as symbolic and culturally significant.

The visit was led by Chief Mrs. Oliaku Chika Ibeneme, popularly known as Nne Mmanwu Igbo Niine (Mother of All Igbo Masquerades) and a former Commissioner for Works and Housing in Anambra State. She carried out the mission on behalf of Ndi Nne Mụọ Ala-Igbo nile—the titled spiritual mothers of Igboland.

In a statement released after the meeting, the delegation reaffirmed its solidarity with Kanu, describing him as a cherished son of the Igbo nation. Prayers were reportedly offered during the visit, ancestral blessings invoked, and symbolic gifts presented as a demonstration of maternal and spiritual support.

The group stated that the visit reflects what it described as its spiritual and ancestral responsibility toward the Igbo people, both living and departed. It emphasized its commitment to advocating justice, equity, and fairness.

Delegation Unveils Broader Engagement Plan

Beyond the prison visit, the spiritual leaders disclosed plans to embark on wider consultations across Nigeria. According to the statement, the initiative will involve engaging traditional rulers, paramount leaders, and spiritual authorities in a bid to foster dialogue and mobilize support for Kanu’s unconditional release.

They called on sons and daughters of Ala-Igbo, as well as Nigerians of goodwill, to unite in prayers and peaceful advocacy efforts aimed at securing his freedom and restoring harmony.

Kanu remains in custody as legal proceedings continue, with his case generating sustained reactions from socio-cultural and political groups across the country.
